The Jewfish is the largest
member of the Grouper family, capable of reaching over 800 pounds.
Despite their enormous size, jewfish prefer to spend most of their
time in the inshore waters. These huge fish have a lifespan of 30 to 50
years!
The jewfish you see
pictured above was photographed on Barracuda
Alley, an artificial
reef created as part of the South Carolina Artificial Reefs
program. The arrival of this 200 pound jewfish came during the
reefs first year.
