Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few  answers to some of your most frequently asked questions:-

What kind of dive sites does the Grand Strand offer?:

We have Civil-War, World War II wrecks, as well as both artificial and natural reefs.    The sites lie at depths suitable for divers of many different levels of experience.  While our sites offer a fantastic wreck diving experience, there is no penetration into the wrecks.  If you have a valid C-Card, we have a dive that's right for you! Check out our dive sites page for more details.  We also have dive sites that are suitable for dive training and instruction.  Coastal Scuba is a PADI dive facility.  Our instructors are ready to help you begin the adventure of a lifetime.

What should I wear for my dive?:

Generally a 3mm wetsuit is ideal spring through fall.  Even when it's warm, as with all wreck diving we recommend you always wear at least a skin to protect you in the event you brush up against a piece of steel protruding from a wreck.  In the winter, we recommend hood, gloves, and layered wetsuits.  After that, it's really up to you and your personal preferences.  Please feel free to call the dive shop and discuss your needs with a dive professional!

Can I bring food?

Yes, we have plenty of room in our 2 large ice coolers, so bring food, snacks, and drinks.  Whether you prefer water, soda, oranges, crackers, your own home-made Dagwood Sandwich, or even Fig Newton's, we have room for your food in our cooler!  Don't go wreck diving hungry!

Where do we meet for our dive?:

We meet at the marina the morning of the dive.  Check the map for details on how to find the marina.  If you can make it to town early enough, stop by for a practice run.  You can avoid any last minute confusion this way, and you can see the marina and meet our dive masters.  They can help you with any questions you may have preparing for your dive.

Should I take anything for seasickness?:

If you are prone to seasickness, or if you are a new diver and you are not sure: you may benefit from taking a motion sickness preventative the night before your dive.   Then take another in the morning.  Consult with your doctor if you have more questions, or call and speak to one of our dive professionals.  We have over-the-counter preventatives available in the dive shop.
